Positives for Ryan and Carey but Limerick's class prevails
Limerick 2-23 Kerry 0-18
Limerick got their season off to a high-scoring start with an 11-point win over Kerry at the Gaelic Grounds in a contest from which both managers can take positives.
Limerick's TJ Ryan had reason to be happy that ten of his players got on the scoresheet while Kerry's new boss, Ciaran Carey, had reason for hope as his side scored ten second-half points, double their first-half tally.
A mere 653 paid in for what was a one-sided affair from the start with Limerick putting over three points from Tom Morrissey, Declan Hannon and Gavin O'Mahoney in as many minutes.
Shane Nolan had Kerry's first score, a pointed free, after six minutes and the sides exchanged a brace of points before Limerick hit a purple patch.
Points by Paul Browne, Sean Tobin, and Morrissey were followed by a goal from David Reidy who cut in from the left and blasted past Aidan McCabe.
By half-time Limerick were 12 points clear, 1-14 to 0-5, and in total command.
Inspired by Nolan, Kerry fared much better in the second half but Limerick's second goal by substitute Mikey Ryan killed off the Kingdom's spirited challenge.
