Mullen haul helps St Kieran's advance
St Kieran's 1-10 Borris VS 1-9
Reigning All-Ireland champions St Kieran's know they will have do better when they face Dublin North in the provincial semi-final on Saturday.
In Fenagh stadium, admittedly a day when hurling was turned into a slog, St Kieran's got a scare although they never looked like losing to a gutsy Borris side.
"This level of form wouldn't do against Dublin North," said manager Liam Smith. "We will have to improve, or our Leinster title will be gone."
With free-taker Kevin McDonald contributing five points, and Paddy Nolan, Colm Whelan and Cathal Treacy also hitting the target, Borris led 0-8 to 1-3 at the break. But they had had the wind behind them, and Kieran's - for whom Sean Carey got the goal - were favourites at the change of ends.
The game turned into a one-man scoring show for Kieran's as Adrian Mullen hit six points to take his side 1-9 to 0-8 clear by the 38th minute.
Gary Lawlor smashed home a goal for Borris in the 57th minute, and Kieran's had a man sent off, but the Kilkenny side held on.
