Christy Moorehouse proved the inspiration as Wicklow secured their status by easily defeating Derry in the relegation play-off in Newry.

Moorehouse returned from suspension to lead the line for the Garden county, hitting an impressive 1-11. He was well supported by Danny Staunton and Diarmuid Masterson.

With the wind at their backs Martin Storey's side took a 0-12 to 0-7 lead into the break. However, Derry rallied strongly after the interval, hitting eight consecutive points to lead by a point by the 47th minute. Ruairí Convery converted several frees in the process.

Badly shaken by the Oak Leaf revival, it took Wicklow until the 14th minute of the second half to score their first point following the restart. But after that the floodgates opened as the Leinster men notched up 2-9.

Danny Staunton scored the first Wicklow goal in the 56th minute, with Moorehouse banging home the second soon after to knock the stuffing out of Derry.
