Molloy and McGlynn earn Brigid's title
St Brigid's Loughrea 1-12 Pres Athenry 0-14
Galway captain David Burke was delighted with his St Brigid's side after they broke the stranglehold of Pres Athenry.
Jason Nevin's ninth-minute goal proved a vital stroke for the Loughrea school and they held a 1-5 to 0-7 lead at half-time.
But Athenry were going for their fourth title in a row, and when recent Galway senior debutant Evan Niland scored his 11th free of the hour, they looked to be on their way to victory.
But St Brigid's showed huge determination to stay in touch and late points from Conor Molloy, his eighth, and corner-forward Damian McGlynn earned victory.
"Keeping lads hungry for position is standing to us, lads have to fight for that all year and there is a lot of character in that group," said Burke, who faced his county colleague Padraig Brehony on the sidelines.
"I thought it was going into extra-time but fair play to the lads, they kept going until the final minute and they got what they deserved.
