Eleven Wexford players shared in their big total as the Model County completed an unbeaten Walsh Cup campaign with a 17-point win over Carlow at Netwatch Cullen Park yesterday - and set up a home semi-final against Offaly.

The visitors were in control from the word go and after 20 minutes led by 0-6 to 0-0.

Kevin McDonald opened the Carlow account with a 27th-minute pointed free before the home county lost right-half back Richard Coady to a second yellow card on the half hour.

A wonderful point from a line cut on 33 minutes from Carlow's James O'Hara was the scoring highlight of the opening half. The Barrowsiders recorded their only point of the half from play by Seán Whelan, and they trailed 0-10 to 0-4 at the break.

Wexford upped their game in the second half as they built a big lead.

The visitors were 0-16 to 0-6 ahead before Paul Morris, Shane Tompkins and substitute David Dunne combined for Dunne to rattle the Carlow net on 62 minutes.

The Yellowbellies went on to add a further five points to Carlow's lone score from substitute Damian O'Neill.
