McCormack sparks Wicklow revival
Wicklow 2-14 Mayo 0-13
Wicklow took full advantage of a strong second-half wind to capture their first league points and end Mayo's winning streak in Division 2B at MacHale Park yesterday.
The home side's interval lead of five points was never going to be enough against a stiff breeze in the second half.
But it was Wicklow's early second-half goal from Eoin McCormack, which set them on the road to victory, along with the unerring accuracy of dead-ball specialist, Christy Moorehouse.
Mayo were hanging in until substitute and man of the match, Michael Lee, struck with their second goal, 10 minutes from time, to seal a fully deserving victory.
Having struggled to take adantage of the elements, a late burst just before half-time saw Mayo go five clear at the break to make it 0-10 to 0-5.
Sean Mulroy, Kenny Feeney with his fifth free, and Gerard McManus opened up a five-point gap having played with a very strong wind at their backs. Moorehosue nailed three of Wicklow points including two frees and a '65.
