Limerick advanced past Cork at Pairc Ui Rinn last night to set up a semi-final date with Tipperary, but it wasn't as easy as it might have been.

Limerick 3-19 Cork 2-15

Leading by three points at half-time after a Cork resurgence coming up to the break, the Shannonsiders dictated matters for much of the second period - so much so that they could afford eight wides, and that profligacy almost came back to haunt them.

As the game looked to be petering out, a Shane Kingston goal gave Cork hope and then Mark Coleman netted to reduce the deficit to four points as injury-time dawned.

Limerick resisted Cork's late pressure, though, and substitute Oisin O'Reilly took a pass from Jack Quaid to get his second goal right at the death.

Twice, Limerick had looked easy winners. They led by 1-8 to 0-2 after the first quarter, with Ronan Lynch, wearing No 6, roving to fine effect, while his namesake Cian dropped back to centre-back.

Ronan Lynch got the goal on ten minutes after Barry Nash's run and three points from midfielder Pat Ryan were a further boon for the Shannonsiders, but slowly Cork came into it, aided by frees from Kingston.

The relocation of Pa O'Callaghan to centre-forward helped him to score three points while Luke Meade was brought back from the attack to quieten Ronan Lynch.

The Lynches reverted back to the spots they were selected in for the second period and the visitors added five unanswered point in the first ten minutes, Ronan Lynch with three frees from distance, before O'Reilly's goal with his first touch on 51 looked to have made things safe at 2-18 to 0-13.
