Louth got their 2019 off to a winning start as they put Longford to the sword at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park in what was an entertaining contest despite the sub-zero conditions.

Paul McCormack's side drew first blood after Peter Brennan hit the target from close range and points from Joe McDonnell, Darren Geoghegan and David Kettle all raised the white flag for the visitors.

Longford made it difficult for their Leinster counterparts, Cathal Mullane and John Mulhern keeping their team in contention.

There were only two points separating the sides at the interval.
