Lethal McCabe keeps Sligo at bay
Warwickshire 3-12 Sligo 1-15
The brilliant accuracy of wing-forward Emmett McCabe propelled Warwickshire to victory in an entertaining third-round tie at Markievicz Park on Saturday.
Sligo hinted that they might salvage at least a draw when Damien Fahy's dead-ball score attempt was deflected home for a 61st-minute goal.
But the damage was already done with early Warwickshire goals from Colm McBride and John Bergin.
Substitute Pauric Crehan deftly flicked in Warwickshire's third goal in the 50th minute to keep Sligo at arm's length, while match-winner McCabe reeled off eight second-half points, including four frees and a '65'.
Sligo recovered from the concession of those two early goals and were 0-10 to 2-3 up at the break, and went three points clear inside five minutes of the re-start, thanks to points from Gary Waldron and Damien Fahy.
But they were left reeling when Warwickshire scored 1-4 without reply in a devastating eight-minute second half spell to take control.
