Deep into injury-time, St Patrick's/DCU substitute Tiernan Lane pulled on a dropping ball and hit the back of the net to rescue a draw for the students against Wicklow B in the Kehoe Cup.

They led by a point at half-time but an experimental Wicklow side put in a superior second-half performance, limiting St Pat's/DCU to only 1-1 in the opening 25 minutes of the half.

The game was characterised by fouling from both teams - St Pat's free-taker Dean Whelan scored all but four of his side's first-half points from placed balls.

Wicklow B started the brighter side, racing into a four-point lead by the tenth minute. Indiscipline allowed the students to gain the upper hand, however, and only a Luke Evans goal late in the half kept the lead to a minimum at half-time.

An early second-half blitz, in which Wicklow outscored St Pat's by nine points to 1-1, gave the home team a four-point lead with ten minutes remaining.

That was whittled back to a point before Jamie Byrne and Gerry Connors restored the three-point margin as the game entered injury-time. Lane, however, was on hand to rescue the draw.

Scorers - Wicklow B: L Evans 1-3, E Donohoe 0-5 (5fs), J Cranley 0-4 (3fs), G Connors, G O'Brien 0-2 each, J Doyle, J Byrne 0-1 each. St Patrick's/DCU: D Whelan 0-11 (7fs, 2 '65), D Fenlon 1-1, S Wilde 0-3, T Lane 1-0.
