Kilmoyley snatch draw with Lixnaw in controversial clash
Lixnaw 0-11 Kilmoyley 0-11 - Kerry SHC final
This decider will be remembered not for the poor quality of the hurling, or an exciting finish, but for a nasty fracas just before the second half started.
Before the restart, an altercation took place between Tom Murnane and Paul Galvin, and with Murnane on the deck, rival players rushed in to join in. Then a third party ran onto the pitch wielding a hurley and aimed it with force at the upper body of Lixnaw's former Kerry football star Galvin.
However, following quick action by a steward the third party was frogmarched off the pitch. Yellow cards were shown to Galvin and Murnane and the second half proceeded without incident.
Kilmoyley led 0-7 to 0-4 after a mediocre first half in which they failed to take advantage of a strong wind, despite three points from Daniel Collins, two from Adrian Royle and then a penalty that Aiden McCabe tapped over.
Lixnaw dominated the second half, moving 0-9 to 0-7 clear, but lost Mike Conway to a second yellow card, opening the door for Kilmoyley, who recovered from 0-11 to 0-8 down with two points from Collins and a very late Murnane equaliser, to force a replay.
