A dominant second half display at Pairc Tailteann earned Abbeyknockmoy a place in the final.

The Galway side trailed 0-7 to 0-6 at the break and soon went three points in arrears following further scores from Kichams’ Donal Carey and Conor Small.

However, the Antrim men didn’t score again as Abbeyknockmoy asserted their authority on proceedings. A free from substitute Paul Flaherty had the sides level by the 38th minute and the Connacht champions then added a further 1-4 without reply.

The goal came courtesy of Craig Kennedy, who took delivery of a long clearance from Damien Rooney and cut in from the left before finding the net.

That goal on 47 minutes left it 1-12 to 0-9 and Abbeyknockmoy defended superbly after that to preserve their lead.

It was point for point throughout the opening half with the sides level on six different occasions before James Carey put Kickhams ahead for the first time on the stroke of half-time.

Conor and Kevin Small were prominent in the Kickhams attack in that opening half as Abbeyknockmoy squandered numerous chances and tallied eight wides.
