Kavanagh stars as super Saints see off Raharney
Leinster club SHC quarter-final: St Mullins 2-14 Raharney 1-11
A wonderful individual display by Marty Kavanagh helped St Mullins defeat Raharney in this entertaining clash at Mullingar.
Mullins were five points down after 18 minutes but showed great determination from then on to seal a fine victory. There was very little between the sides in a lively first half, Kavanagh and Killian Doyle on song at either end from placed balls.
The first goal was Raharney's in the 18th minute. Robbie Greville picked up a great pass from Darren Giles and bore down on goal before firing a low shot past Kevin Kehoe. But St Mullins battled back to level it at the break (0-10 to 1-7).
Raharney were a point to the good (1-9 to 0-10) 10 minutes into the second half when fine play by Kavanagh and John Walsh teed up James Doyle for a well-taken goal for the visitors. The home team lost Ciaran Doyle to a second yellow card in the 47th minute but still created chances.
St Mullins led by two points (1-13 to 1-11) with seconds left when Kavanagh caught the ball from a James Doyle delivery and he gave Andrew Doyle no chance for the clinching goal. Raharney were then down to 13 men when Robbie Greville was dismissed for a second yellow in added time before James Doyle sealed the win with a fine point.
