Heroic Hankard snatches win
Midleton CBS (Cork) 1-14 Coláiste Eoin (Dublin) 1-12
Midleton CBS advanced to the semi-finals of the Croke Cup as they accounted for Coláiste Eoin in dramatic circumstances at Nowlan Park.
The Dublin Gaelscoil appeared to have snatched victory thanks to a Séamus Ó Fiachna goal and a Padhraic Ó Luineacháin point in injury time.
However, in the 65th minute Jason Hankard got the slightest of touches to a Ryan McCarthy sideline to see his side home in the most dramatic of manners.
McCarthy was key for the Harty Cup winners, firing over 10 points over the hour.
There was little to separate the sides in the opening quarter as Hankard and Ross O'Regan were on target for Midelton, while Pádraig Puirséil and Dónal Mac Duinnsléibhe replied for Coláiste Eoin.
However, McCarthy's prowess ensured his side had a 0-8 to 0-6 interval lead and he continued to dominate upon the resumption, landing four scores on the bounce to leave Midleton ahead 0-12 to 0-7.
However, their opponents battled back gamely and when Ó Luanacháin landed a point in the 63rd minute, they looked well set for victory - until Hankard's late intervention.
