Ronan Hayes converted a brace of inury-time frees to rescue a share of the spoils for UCD at David Billings Park.

The hosts spurned a glorious chance in the early stages as goalkeeper Brian Hogan fluffed a fourth-minute penalty and NUIG took advantage as Conor Sheedy raced through to fire a low shot beyond Hogan five minutes later.

The visitors tagged on scores through Conor Whelan and Ian Fox but UCD regained some momentum as Paul Crummey netted.

A goal from Eoghan Callaghan helped to reduce deficit to two points (1-11 to 2-6) by the interval.

The hosts then looked to have landed a decisive blow as Sean Carey crashed home their third goal.

However, UCD struggled from that point, failing to score from play for the remainder of the game, and five Niland points looked to have sealed NUIG's victory prior to Hayes' dramatic late intervention.
