Goal from Bernard Deay turns the tide for Kildare
Kildare 2-15 Down1-12
Kildare made it two wins from two with a hard-fought victory over Down in Division 2B of the league in St Conleth's Park, Newbridge yesterday.
Despite an early goal from the home side's Gerry Keegan, Down were the more impressive in the opening stages and when James Coyle nipped in for a goal after eight minutes, they led by four points.
Kildare bounced back with points from Mark Delaney, Leo Quinn and Evan Dempsey, but Down stayed in front until Bernard Deay pounced for a second Kildare goal in the 28th minute.
Four rapid points propelled Kildare into a half-time lead and in a low-scoring second half, a series of points from Delaney and Keegan were enough to hold off Down, who had Micheal McCullough dismissed for a second yellow card late on.
