Gilroy is 'mad keen to get going' after Dubs workout
Dubs stars 1-24 Dublin 0-21
Pat Gilroy and Mickey Whelan were on the green, green grass of home. Two celebrated names of St Vincent's; a club with much to celebrate and their Dublin hurlers out dancing with the stars.
Before the throw-in they were looking at the warm-up, along with coach Anthony Cunningham, for the Dublin Bus/Herald Dubs Stars contest at Páirc Naomh Uinsionn. A Dublin fan asked the duo for a picture. No problem.
On the pitch, the game had a real intensity to it. It was not an afternoon for passing around the cranberry sauce.
At the end, 'Giller' was content with the workout.
"Both teams really went at it out there," he reflected. "They gave it their best shot. Overall, the effort from the two teams was most encouraging. Most of the players are with the Dublin squad, so it was good to see it so competitive. We are mad keen to get going."
Good vibrations filled the gallery like the Marino Waltz.
The crowd liked what they were seeing. Johnny McCaffrey is back. And all applauded his return.
So many of those in action did themselves much credit. Paul Winters, Fergal Whitely and Alan Moore were the Stars' half-forward line. Quality Street. And a manager raring to tackle 2018.
