Elliott seals easy opener for the Saffrons
Antrim 3-19 Kerry 0-14
Antrim began their 2019 campaign with a 14-point win over 14-man Kerry at Dunloy on Saturday. Goals from Ciaran Clarke, Nicky McKeague and Nigel Elliott paved the way for victory over the Munster side, who lost corner-back John Buckley to a straight red card in the 57th minute.
Kerry led by 0-4 to 0-1 after 10 minutes, with Michael O’Leary opening the scoring after just 15 seconds and Shane Conway then converting two placed balls.
A James McNaughton free brought Antrim closer and a point from Conor McCann levelled matters for the first time on the half hour mark.
Conway restored the Kerry advantage before the game’s first goal, McNaughton feeding Clarke to finish past Martin Stackpoole.
The sides were level again as the game ticked into first-half injury-time, but O’Neill’s second of the day gave Antrim a 1-7 to 0-9 lead.
A Paddy Burke point and McKeague’s goal put daylight between the sides as Antrim outscored Kerry by 1-6 to 0-1 in a 20-minute period, the goal a superb effort from sub Nigel Elliott.
