It took extra-time to divide these two teams in a fascinating contest at Abbotstown on Saturday. From as early as the 15th minute the signs were on that extra-time might be necessary to divide the teams.

At half-time it was 0-8 each, but immediately after the interval Antrim's scoring ace Sean Elliott availed of a defensive error to score a goal. Four minutes later Carlow were level when Jon Nolan pointed and Ciaran Whelan converted a free and added a point from play.

With Whelan knocking over the frees Carlow led by three points with 65 minutes played and after successfully defending a close-range free and a '65' they were undone when Elliott picked up a loose ball to score a second goal and bring the game to extra-time at 2-13 to 0-19.

Elliott added two more points to Whelan's one to nudge his side in front in first-half extra-time.

With the slight breeze in their backs going into the final 10 minutes Carlow finished well. Points from Jon Nolan, Sheehan and Whelan with two put daylight between the teams.
