Douglas delivers when it matters
Dr Harty Cup: De La Salle 0-12 Midleton CBS 0-12
Thomas Douglas was the hero as Waterford's De La Salle clinched the final quarter-final spot with this draw at the Waterford IT complex.
Going into this game, De La Salle stood on four points in Group A with Midleton on three as the pair vied to finish second behind the already-qualified Ardscoil Rís.
With Midleton 0-11 to 0-5 ahead at half-time and seven clear early in the second half, they seemed set to advance, but De La Salle ate into the deficit and were a point behind when awarded a free 60 yards out.
Douglas (16) hadn't had the best of days from placed balls, but he made no mistake.
In the first half, Midleton made good use of the wind, with seven players on target. Kevin Moynihan, Josh Beausang and John Looney all impressed.
Harry Ruddle, though, chipped away at the deficit and when they won a free late on, Douglas did the needful.
