Longford's skill and excellent finishing crushed Leitrim in Carrick-on-Shannon yesterday. Eoin Donnellan was the star of the show as he punished Leitrim with an exhibition of free-taking.
Joe O'Brien scored the only goal of the game after nine minutes, and the Midlanders dominated the rest of the game, leading 1-10 to 0-5 at half-time.
Leitrim had a mini-revival early on the resumption, with Padraig O'Donnell scoring four points to reduce the arrears, but the dismissal of full-forward Colm Moreton for a straight red-card offence in the 47th minute was a major blow.
Longford went on to score five points without reply in the final 15 minutes to register a comfortable victory.
