Two goals in the opening quarter from Eamonn Dillon set Dublin on course for a facile 11-point victory over Carlow in their Walsh Cup encounter at Parnell Park yesterday afternoon.

The Nh Fionnbarra attacker highlighted his predatory instincts with two clinical finishes within 40 seconds of each other in the 12th minute.

Dublin stretched their lead through points from David Keogh, Paul Ryan and Andrew Dunphy before allowing their opponents to build up momentum of their own with a sequence of eight unanswered points.

Martin Kavanagh hit six of those scores but their comeback stalled as Ronan Hayes fed Donal Burke for Dublin's third goal in the 34th minute.

Leading by 3-8 to 0-12 at the interval, Dublin resumed in a dominant manner as they added to their tally thanks to a brace of fine points from Mark Schutte.

Carlow were powerless to prevent Dublin from pulling away as the half progressed with their numerous substitutions mitigating against any fluency, and it was the 53rd minute before the Barrowsiders managed to register their opening score of the half.
