DAVID MCINERNEY admits he got "an awful shock" when he heard the news that Donal Og Cusack would be coach/selector with the Clare senior hurlers but he feels it's a "good move".

The former Cork goalkeeper will work under Davy Fitzgerald and after stagnating in the last two years, McInerney welcomed the change.

As yet the Banner have just had a "meet and greet" with Cusack but the 22-year-old can't wait to see the expertise he offers to the set-up when they begin training later this month.

"His analysis of games is very good and he'll be bringing loads of different things - leadership, a good voice in the dressing-room and he'll have loads of knowledge of hurling," he said.

"It'll be interesting to see. He thinks that we play hurling the right way, with the right style, so I suppose we'll probably move forward that way."
