Edmond Kenny's third-quarter goal proved pivotal as Lancashire finally swept Cavan aside in Ballyconnell.

The visitors were shocked when the Breffni men fought back to gain parity (3-6 to 0-15) before Kenny knocked the wind from their sails.

A point from Cuala's John Sheanon levelled matters at 0-2 apiece but thanks, in the main, to Ronan Crowley's unerring free-taking -he scored 16 points in total -the favourites powered into a 0-11 to 0-4 lead.

In an exciting climax to the first half, goals from Colum Sheanon and Anthony Sheridan cut Lancashire's half-time lead to three points, 0-14 to 2-5.

A third Cavan goal followed through Cillian Sheanon and when Sean Keating split the posts to level the scores, a hint of an upset emerged.

However, Kenny's cracker on 42 minutes plus a string of Crowley frees put paid to any lingering hopes of a shock home win.
