John Conlon looks set to play a role for Clare in Sunday's Munster semi-final against Waterford as his recovery from an ankle injury is ahead of schedule.

Conlon took part in an internal match over the weekend, and with Aaron Cunningham ruled out, the temptation is strong for the League champions to thrust their ball-winner straight back into the action.

Conlon had been Clare's best player in the League, up to and including the semi-final win over Kilkenny, when he was instrumental as Clare plundered four goals. But a bad ankle injury ruled him out of the final and replay.

It was felt at one stage that he might miss all of the Munster Championship but he is right back on track to be in the mix.

Manager Davy Fitzgerald intimated last week that Conlon would struggle to make the squad but his chances have now improved.

Cunningham, Conor Ryan and David McInerney have all been ruled out but Oisin O'Brien is back in the frame after undergoing emergency surgery while in Austria for a punctured lung that forced him out of the replay against Waterford.
