Cillian Egan shines as Ruthless Rossies hammer students

Determined Roscommon swept aside the tame challenge of IT Sligo yesterday.

Roscommon could afford to shoot 11 first-half wides as they headed to the break 1-7 to 0-2 in front, the goal coming from substitute Naos Connaughton in the 25th minute. IT Sligo's two first-half scores came from freetaker Damien Fahy.

With the wind in the second half, the home side failed to make any inroads, and well-taken goals from Naos Connaughton and Cillian Egan all but ending the game as a contest.

IT Sligo's first score from play arrived in the 39th minute, with the Roscommon defence conceding little ground to their opponents.

The visitors also had a clear goal signalled for a point in the 45th minute. However, points from Gary Fallon, Gerry Fallon, Tomas Seale and Egan saw Roscommon record their first win of the new year.
