Casey's exhibition for Red Hand
Tyrone 2-15 Monaghan 0-17
An inspired Damien Casey put on an exhibition of finishing that helped propel Tyrone to a deserved victory in Inniskeen yesterday.
Casey, who hit 2-11, demonstrated his predatory instincts as he pounced for two vital goals that proved the difference between the sides.
His first goal after 16 minutes helped Tyrone to a 1-7 to 0-8 half-time lead, with the accuracy of Fergal Rafter, who finished with 12 points, helping to keep the home side in touch.
Within three minutes of the resumption Casey pounced for his second goal to put Tyrone five ahead.
Monaghan's cause was not helped when they were reduced to 14 players with the dismissal of Patrick Finnegan as the game entered the final quarter.
They battled away gamely but Tyrone were always that little bit sharper in both defence and attack, with two late points seeing Monaghan reduce the deficit to four at the finish.
