Casey leads the fight to keep Tyrone up
Tyrone 1-24 Fermanagh 1-19
Tyrone displayed grit and passion to retain their NHL status in an extra-time thriller at Ballyshannon, where they battled back to defeat Fermanagh in their Division 3A/3B relegation-promotion play-off.
They had to play the entire second half with 14 players, and trailed by four points with just a minute to play, but stunned the Erne men with 1-1 to tie it up at 1-14 each.
Damien Casey weighed in with a 15-point haul as the Red Hands shattered Fermanagh's promotion dreams.
They tagged on 10 points in extra-time to avoid the drop, and keep their opponents in the bottom tier for 2017.
A shoot-out between Sean Corrigan and Casey had the sides level four times in the opening half, and despite losing midfielder Justin Kelly to a straight red card in stoppage-time, Tyrone turned around with a 0-8 to 0-6 interval lead.
Dual star Daniel Teague banged home a 41st-minute goal, and Corrigan's eighth point opened up a four-point lead, with Ryan Bogue ( from a sideline cut) and substitute Ciaran Corrigan on target as well.
Tyrone looked dead and buried, but Aidan Kelly grabbed a 69th-minute goal, and Casey levelled the game in injury-time.
Back to their full complement of 15 men, they dominated extra-time, with Sean Og Grogan, Conor Grogan and Ryan McKernan all hitting points.
Casey added four to his impressive tally, and goalkeeper Conor McElhatton did his bit with a fine save from Teague.
