Galway chalked up their second win in four days in the Walsh Cup to continue the bright start to Micheal Donoghue's reign as their superior firepower was too much for NUIG in Ballinasloe.

The holders held an edge throughout and had more than enough potency up front for an NUIG side who were far too dependent on Bobby Duggan for scores.

Nine members of the Galway side that started the All-Ireland final were in action from the outset - with four of them lining out for NUIG.

Galway led by 1-10 to 0-8 at the break, with the Tribesmen opening up a 0-5 to 0-1 lead after just seven minutes with Eanna Burke and Joe Canning particularly sharp.

The students hit back, with free-taker Duggan leading the way, scoring all but one of their first-half points.

The Galway goal came after 11 minutes when Canning set up Brian Molloy. Points from Burke, Canning, Molloy and Padraig Brehony stretched the Galway lead after the restart.

But then Duggan followed up a couple of frees with a goal and suddenly the gap was down to three.

However, that was as close as the students got as Canning kept tacking on frees and Galway pulled away.
