Diarmaid Byrnes magnificently converted an injury-time free to give Limerick IT a dramatic win in Carlow yesterday, where almost all of the drama was packed into added-time.
With the visitors leading by 1-12 to 0-13, Carlow full-back Ryan Mullaney lofted the ball into the Limerick goalmouth and left corner-forward Seamus Casey got the final touch to put the home side ahead.
However, David Dempsey quickly levelled and, when Limerick were awarded a free some 50 metres from their own goal, All-Ireland final hero Byrnes (below) stepped up to score a superb winner.
Limerick led 1-6 to 0-5 at half-time, their goal coming in the ninth minute from centre-forward Brian Fanning.
