Bridge too far for brave Fechins
Knockbridge 4-12 St Fechins1-9
Favourites Knockbridge claimed their first Louth SHC crown since 2014 with a comprehensive victory over rivals St Fechins.
Goals from Gary Hall, Shane Fennell, Gerry McKeown and Ronan Mulholland set Knockbridge up for an ultimately comfortable victory as they overcame a slow start to complete the double having already won the league this season.
The Reds came into the match as the outstanding side in Louth hurling having won the league as well as winning all three matches in the group stages of the championship. The favourites started slowly howeverand were 0-4 to 0-1 down before Gary Hall’s excellent strike levelled upthe match. A David Stephenson goal for Fechins put them back in the driving seat, 1-6 to 1-2 ahead, but a goal just before the break from Shane Fennell ensured Knockbridge went in at half-time just a point down, with the scoreboard reading 2-3 to 1-7in favour of the Fechins.
If the first half was close the second was anything but as Knockbridge blitzed their opponents with a succession of scores from all angles after the break. Four ShaneFennell frees in quick succession gave Bridge the lead before Man of the Match Gerry McKeown scored his side’s third goal to put distance between the teams. By the time Ronan Mulholland netted the fourth goal the celebrations had begun as Knockbridge deservedly claimed the title.
