Brian Lohan's UL troops almost through to the quarter's
UL 1-24 GMIT 1-11: Fitzgibbon Cup
Brian Lohan was reluctant to look ahead of next week's group decider with UCC despite his side's impressive victory over GMIT yesterday.
UL hit 1-9 without reply in the last ten minutes after Jason Flynn's goal put just a point between the sides and had given GMIT hope of a first Group B win.
But strong final quarters from Clare's Tony Kelly and Tipperary's Jason Forde, and PJ Scully's late goal, means UL are now in prime position ahead of that Mardyke battle.
"I don't think we are quite into the quarter-final with NUIG beating UCC today. It's still up in the air. We are close enough, but not quite over the line," said Lohan.
"The ambition was always to get to a quarter-final, but going down to the Mardyke to play UCC, it doesn't get any better than that."
