The 2008 All-Ireland final was easily the hardest day of my hurling career and all I wanted to do was head down the Croke Park tunnel and wallow in my own self-pity after Kilkenny laid waste to us.

I felt it was right to stay out on the pitch and congratulate the dream team on a perfect performance, though, and shaking Brian Cody’s hand was top of my agenda. I’m so glad I did because I shook the hand of greatness.
