Clare hurler Brendan Bugler will miss the crucial National Hurling League encounter with Kilkenny after being hit with a two-game suspension following his red card last weekend.

Davy Fitzgerald will have to plan without the experienced defender for the clash with the Cats and potentially a relegation play-off after his dismissal against Dublin at Cusack Park last Saturday.

Bugler was reported for “attempting to kick with minimal force” but chose not to accept the proposed penalty.

Clare must beat Kilkenny on Sunday and hope that Galway defeat Dublin to squeeze into the top four places and stay out of the bottom two.

Meanwhile, Dublin star Denis Bastick has seen this black card against Kerry downgraded to a yellow card.
