Limerick duo Barry Murphy and Kevin O'Brien fired UL into the quarter-finals of the Fitzgibbon Cup on a freezing night at WIT.

Free-taker Murphy returned 1-6 while O'Brien produced three points from play in each half.

Gary Kirby's men will host UCC in the last eight on February 7.

On the quarter-hour, Murphy shrugged off a heavy challenge and belted the sliotar past Mark Fanning for a 1-5 to 0-3 lead.

Tom Morrissey, Murphy and Ian Galvin raised white flags for the leaders approaching the interval, when they led 1-11 to 0-4.

Kirby emptied the bench and sub David Gleeson lashed to the net with seven minutes remaining.

WIT battled until the end and Fanning drove home a 30-metre free in added time.
