Former All-Star Ger Aylward could be back in action for Kilkenny as soon as this weekend's eagerly-anticipated NHL clash with Tipperary in Nowlan Park.

Aylward's future with the county side looked in doubt earlier this season with reports suggesting he wasn't part of Brian Cody's extended panel.

However, it's understood the Glenmore man is back in the picture with the Cats and was in excellent form during a recent challenge game.

And with a number of Kilkenny players on Fitzgibbon Cup final duty this weekend, including forward John Donnelly, he could be recalled to the squad for the visit of Tipp.

Aylward announced himself on the inter-county scene when he hit 3-5 on his championship debut for the Cats against Wexford in 2015 and he would go on to claim an All-Star award later that year.

However, it's not all good news for the Cats with Kevin Kelly facing an extended spell on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery.
