Kerry gifted a series of goals to Westmeath as they contrived to lose this game at Austin Stack Park, throwing away a six-point lead with 15 minutes to go.

The Kingdom led 0-11 to 0-6 until Shane Clavin's effort for a point dropped into the net. Westmeath felt the need to shake things up at the break, bringing on three subs, but Kerry remained in the ascendance.

Mikey Boyle scored a spectacular goal, and with Shane Conway accurate from frees, the Kingdom led 1-14 to 1-8 with a quarter of an hour to go.

But then, calamities at the back presented goals to Derek McNicholas, Cormac Boyle and Robbie Greville that put the Lake Men ahead by three.

Deep into injury-time Conway's goal levelled matters, but Westmeath snatched an unlikely victory with two even later points.

McNaughton strikes at death

Antrim 3-13 Meath 2-15

There was a sensational ending to this tie as James McNaughton snatched victory for the visitors with the last puck of the game at Trim yesterday.

Moments earlier Jack Regan hit a terrific effort to the net from a 20-metre free to draw Meath level.

The concession of three important goals in the opening half proved costly for the Meath men.

McNaughton, who finished with a personal tally of 1-8, had the ball in the net within 20 seconds of the start and Eoin O'Neill and Ciaran Clarke added further goals before the break.

However, with Padraig O'Hanrahan accounting for five points, Jack Regan hitting four and Darragh Kelly three, Meath trailed by just a point, 0-13 to 3-5, at the break.

Antrim went three clear early in the second half but Meath were level following Damien Healy's 43rd-minute goal.

It was nip and tuck thereafter until McNaughton decided the tie at the death.
