Heartwarming moment of the GAA season was remembered last night
One of the moment's of the GAA season took place after Waterford's narrow defeat to Kilkenny in the All-Ireland hurling semi-final replay when a Cats supporter comforted distraught Deise star Pauric Mahony at the final whistle.
GAA fans from around the country were touched when Jennifer Malone put her arm around the Waterford forward following Kilkenny's two-point win.
And last night Jennifer and Pauric were reunited with the former receiving a special award for the Moment of the Championship at the Star GAA awards in Croke Park.
The Star awards have long been an integral part of the GAA calendar and last night Croke Park was rammed with the country's top football, hurling and camogie players.
Brian Fenton of Dublin won the Footballer of the Year award while Tipp's Seamus Callanan was honoured in the small ball game.
Kilkenny’s Julie Ann Malone won the Ladies Camogie Player of the Final while seven-time All Star Brid Stack won the football equivalent for her role in Cork's victory over Dublin.
Tipperary's Noel McGrath was also honoured as he picked up a Special Merit Award for his work in raising cancer awareness while Waterford's Derek McGrath scooped the Hurling Personality of the Year Award.
