Watch: Emotional Aidan O'Shea holds back tears as he pays tribute to deceased club-mates following league win
Mayo star Aidan O'Shea paid tribute to two Breaffy club-mates who died this year after the senior team defeated Knockmore to claim the Division 1A title yesterday.
O'Shea's side were defeated by Claremorris in the senior championship earlier this month, but had the consolation of claiming a league crown, with the two-time All Star captaining Breaffy to victory.
Afterwards, O'Shea made an emotional speech where he remembered 12-year-old Faye Lavin who passed away and his friend David Gavin (26), who died after a swimming accident in Canada in July.
In a video shared by Midwest Radio, O'Shea paid tribute to his two deceased club-mates.
"It was a difficult year for this group, for the club itself," O'Shea said.
"We lost Faye Lavin, and we also lost a club mate, and great friend, David Gavin.
"He represented everything that is good about gaelic football, not just Breaffy, but guys from Knockmore will have played against him as well. He was a great fella, a great footballer and one that we will dearly miss."
