It's no surprise that Joe Brolly is not a supporter of the tactics of the Cavan football team but he made an unfortunate comparison today between the side and RTE colleague Marty Morrissey.

The former All-Ireland winner with Derry has previously called Cavan 'the Black Death of Ulster football' but stunned Sunday Game presenter Michael Lyster when he compared Cavan to popular a sports presenter.

"Some people have said that Cavan football is as ugly as Marty Morrissey," he said on RTE's Sunday Game ahead of Cavan's Ulster quarter-final clash with Monaghan at Kingspan Breffni Park.

He added: "I should apologise... to the people of Cavan for that."

Brolly apologised for his remarks at half time in the game and Michael Lyster left him in no doubt that what he said should not have been uttered.

“I want to say that what I said about Marty Morrissey was said in a spirit of affection not literally,” he said.

Michael Lyster: “I presume that’s an apology", and Brolly agreed.

“We appreciate that because it was out of order Joe.”

There was a lot of reaction to the comment on social media:
