Triple blow for Offaly's back door prospects
Offaly football manager Emmet McDonnell has been dealt a major blow with news that both Brian Connor and John Moloney have emigrated, writes declan rooney.
And in a further setback, Anton Sullivan has had to bow to the inevitable and undergo surgery on a shoulder injury that will rule him out for the rest of the season.
Connor – son of Offaly legend Richie – missed last year's championship after heading to Chicago for the summer and after starting for the Faithful County in last weekend's defeat to Kildare, he has decided to return to the States.
Tullamore clubman Moloney, the Offaly minor captain from 2008, has also decided to try his luck Stateside ahead of the qualifier campaign.
"It is a decision the boys have decided to make and we have to move on from it. Last weekend we had four or five good lads that came on and we'll be relying on them now," said McDonnell, who led St Mary's Edenderry to Hogan Cup glory in 2012. "We have a good, strong panel and we have to stay positive on the back of this now."
Sullivan started at wing-forward against the Lilywhites, but after suffering a fourth shoulder dislocation playing for the Army earlier this year, he has had to go under the knife.
