NUI Galway had no trouble setting up a first round Sigerson Cup tussle with St Mary's after this straight forward preliminary round win at Dangan.

Six points from Peadar O Griofa, who went off with a shoulder injury, sent Tommy Joyce's troops into the next round as John Comerford's last-minute goal only tidied up the scoreboard.

"I'm happy enough, but the performance wasn't up to the standard we had set there in the FBD League. We'll have to up it big time for St Mary's next week," said Joyce.

Both sides had players sent off, as Blanchardstown's Dylan Stephens saw red after 10 minutes following a clash with Adrian Varley, who soon followed him after he picked up a yellow card and black card. NUI Galway led by 0-9 to 0-3 at the interval and seven unanswered points either side of the break and Cian Connolly's late flurry saw them through.
