ONE dad who is grateful that he won't be filling his regular co-commentary role for Tipp FM radio this Sunday is Tom McGrath, whose son Liam is one of the stars of their minor football finalists.
"There was never any danger because I only do the hurling analysis," said the former county senior footballer. "Walty Moloney does the football co-commentary and he'll be alongside Paddy Finucane (commentator) next weekend."
But McGrath admitted that it will be difficult to keep a check on emotions as Tipperary bid for their first MFC triumph since 1934.
Tom's brother Pat, who captained Tipperary's hurlers in the 1989 NHL final is father of current senior star Noel, whose brother is a talented dual star with the county's minors.
Tom and Pat are married to two sisters, so the boys are 'double cousins'!
It is a big day too for their club -- Loughmore Castleiney -- who have also produced two more of the squad, John Meagher and Dara Butler.
Tom McGrath paid special tribute to Tipp's young minor manager David Power, who has brought the Premier County to their first football final since 1984.
Power is still only 28 and has managed them for the past three years and he must have had some premonition of what was to come as he deferred his chartered accountancy exams this season to concentrate on his team of young heroes.
