Tierney the star as Breffni boys wrap up back-to-back Ulster titles

Cavan fully deserved to claim back-to-back titles at Brewster Park against a Tyrone side which found it very difficult to break down a resolute and well-organised Breffni defence.

Two points separated the sides at the break, with Cavan failing to register a score from play in the first half, but in the second half they played some brilliant football.

Kevin Tierney was accurate from frees for Cavan, while they hit a number of brilliant points from play in the second half.

Neven O'Donnell did brilliant work to set up Joe Dillon for the first, with Ray Lynch hitting a great point to put them five ahead.

Tyrone kept in touch with Darren McCurry frees, but Cavan kept their lead intact thanks to Jack Brady and Tierney frees until two late Tyrone points left just a goal between the teams.

This was a brilliant team performance from Cavan, with Killian Clarke in great form in the full-back line and Michael Brady both a steady defender and an explosive attacking option at wing-back.

ELECTRIC

The first half had an electric start when Cavan's Chris Conroy was fouled from almost the first attack to win a penalty, and Darragh Sexton converted to the bottom right-hand corner.

The Red Hand youngsters started to play their way into the game and two placed-balls from Richie Donnell and McCurry had them right back in the game.

But dangerous full-forward Tierney struck to restore the two-point lead.

Tyrone were back on level terms within a matter of minutes with the first scores from play in the game. First Stefan Tierney turned smartly to swing over a neat left-footed effort before a brilliant Donnelly pass released midfielder Harry Og Conlon, who landed a beauty with his right foot.

It looked at this point that Tyrone might kick on, but Cavan had other ideas and Tierney converted two more frees before Donnelly replied in kind.

The last score of the half went to the hard-working Jack Brady for Cavan -- he converted a close-in free to leave two between the teams at the break.
