Three-goal blitz powers DCU to familiar final spot
Dublin City University 3-8 University of Limerick 1-10
MARK Fitzpatrick's Dublin City University blitzed UL with a second-half scoring burst in the second semi-final at Waterford IT sports campus.
DCU, who won three successive titles from 2009-2011, came from six points down at half-time to qualify for a fourth final in five seasons.
They struck for three second-half goals in the space of seven minutes to turn this tie on its head. Brid O'Sullivan, Laura McEnaney and Roisin Colleary bagged the crucial goals as DCU advanced to a final meeting with Queen's this afternoon (1.0).
UL led by six points at half-time, 1-7 to 0-4, but the eight-time winners had no answer to DCU after half-time.
The game was still hanging in the balance following DCU's goal blitz, as the winners led by two points, 3-6 to 1-10, after Kerry's Lorraine Scanlon pointed for UL in the 46th minute.
But UL paid the price for three bad wides as points from O'Sullivan and Clodagh McManamon sealed DCU's safe passage to the final.
