A WELL-STRUCK 68th minute point by Carlow full-forward Paul Reid gave Paul Bealin's men both NFL Division 4 points at Dr Cullen Park yesterday and ended any faint Tipperary promotion hopes.
In a dramatic second half, Carlow were reduced to 14 men when Mark Carpenter received a straight red card. In the 48th minute Tipp's Philip Austin also received a straight red and then in the dying minutes their right full-back Aidan Foley was sent off, having earlier seen yellow for a blatant foul.
A splendid 10th minute goal from Robbie Costigan put Tipp 1-1 to 0-1 ahead. Carlow battled strongly and by half time were only a point adrift (1-6 to 0-8). Down to 14 men, the home side scored a fine goal when Paul Broderick's great run set up Patrick Walsh.
In a thrilling finish, Broderick converted a close free earned by Carlow's man of the match, Paul Cashin, before Palatine clubman Reid kicked the winning point.
