Tipperary footballers picked up their second win in Division 3 on Saturday night as they eased past Laois by six points.
Liam Kearns side were the better team throughout, with their forward line, led by Conor Sweeney, far more clinical than Laois. The win gets Tipp back on track for promotion, but Laois are now firmly mired in a relegation battle.
Laois had started brightly, with a point from a Donie Kingston free putting them in front. Tipperary dominated after that, though, and Sweeney hit four of the next five points to push them four clear. Josh Keane then added a free, and they looked comfortable.
The home side would eventually rally themselves, and points from Kingston (3), Niall Donoher and Colm Begley had them just one behind at the break, 0-7 to 0-6.
Laois briefly drew level at the start of the second half thanks to John O'Loughlin, but Conor Sweeney's accuracy from frees pushed Tipperary four clear, at 0-13 to 0-9.
Laois's race looked to be run when Donie Kingston was black-carded in the 58th minute, but to their credit they kept battling on. Darren Strong set David Conway up for a brilliant goal three minutes after they lost Kingston, but Tipp closed the game out impressively from there, with Kevin O'Halloran's lucky goal from a free capping off the victory.
