Three goals from 18-year-old substitute Ben McCarron helped Derry to a four-point win over Fermanagh at Brewster Park.

McCarron, who replaced the injured Ryan Bell after just five minutes, was clinical in front of goal, hitting two in the second half to secure the victory.

Derry were three up at the break, with McCarron's second major stretching that to six points.

Darragh McGurn hit back with a penalty for Fermanagh following a foul on Conor Magee, but the home side never looked like creating enough to overhaul the deficit.

McCarron's third goal came after a quick free from Christopher Bradley sent him through.

Fermanagh pushed hard in the last 15 minutes and clipped over several points, with substitute Garvan Jones impressing with a brace, but it was never going to be enough.

Derry were the better team in the opening half. The visitors went three points to the good with good points from Emmett Bradley and Enda Lynn, with Bradley adding a free.

Kevin McDonnell hit back with a point before Derry sliced through the home defence for a well-taken goal, McCarron hammering to the net.

Another slick move saw Christopher Bradley open his account to put Derry seven clear before the Ernemen got things going in attack. Two scores were followed by a Christopher Bradley free for Derry before Ryan Lyons found space to surge through the Oak Leaf defence to drill to the corner for a fine goal.

Christopher Bradley and McGurn traded free-kicks, while Tom Clarke shaved the post with a fisted effort following a high ball for Fermanagh.
