Stenson puts paid to Mary's revival

St Gerald's Castlebar 1-12
St Mary's Galway 1-8

An early scoring blitz paved the way for St Gerald's to advance to the semi-finals of the Connacht colleges SFC.

The Castlebar college were always in the driving seat after racing into a 0-6 to 0-0 start at Shrule as Cillian O'Connor hit three points and Tomas Gibbons, Cian Costello and Ciaran Mulgrew also found the range.

St Mary's finally got off the mark in the 14th minute with a Fiach O'Bearra point but they trailed 0-10 to 0-3 at the break.

The Galway school rallied after the restart and reduced the deficit to a goal. But the revival ended when David Stenson nabbed a goal for St Gerald's and they held on despite a late consolation goal by Shane Maughan.
