Smyth penalty helps Longford march on

Robbie Smyth scored 1-2 as reigning champions Longford edged out Westmeath at Pearse Park last night.

Smyth’s goal from a 46th minute penalty – after Killian Daly dragged down Barry McKeon – was the key score, as it halted a strong Westmeath fightback.

The visitors’ chances were ended soon after when captain Paddy Holloway was red-carded.
